Casino Rules and Strategies

Different Games, Different Rules
When it comes to casino betting, each game has its own set of rules.

Some games are purely based on chance, such as online slots. Others require a certain level of skill, such as poker.

We’ll go over the rules for the most popular casino games so that you can get a basic understanding of how they work.

These rules will be helpful for when you play online, but many of these rules apply to land-based casinos as well.

Casino Slots Rules

Casino slots rule the gaming floor at many casinos around the world. They’re also the most popular game among players who enjoy the excitement of the flashing lights and the possibility of hitting a jackpot.

Slots were once exclusively mechanical, but with the rise of online casinos, most slots nowadays are digital.

What this means is that results are determined by a random number generator (RNG) as opposed to a physical reel.

There are three main types of casino slots:

3-reel slots, which are minimalistic and reminiscent of the original slot machines
5-reel slots, which offer more possibilities as they tend to have more paylines
Progressive slots, which are jackpots that increase their top payout with each spin, leading up to massive jackpots that can change a player’s life

The rules are simple: you spin the reels and hope to line up matching symbols. You can adjust how many paylines you want to play and how much you want to bet per payline.

Each slot game has its own paytable, and the amounts vary depending on the type of slot.

It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the paytable before you start playing.

Some slots also have bonus features such as free spins or progressive jackpots.

To qualify for a bonus round, you usually need to line up multiple special symbols (e.g., wilds and scatters) or land on a specific symbol.

Roulette Rules

Roulette is another popular table game at casinos. It’s easy to learn and can pay out generously.

There are different versions of roulette, such as European, American, and French. Let’s highlight key rules of European roulette, the most popular variation.

At the beginning of each round, players place their bets on the table. You can place bets on individual numbers, groups of numbers, or categories (colours, odds/evens, etc.).

Once the bets are placed, the wheel is spun, and a small ball is dropped onto the wheel.

The ball will eventually land in a numbered pocket, and if you’ve placed a bet on that number or a group that includes that number, you’ll receive a payout.

The numbers on the wheel alternate between red and black, and 0 is green.

In European roulette, there are 36 regular numbers and one zero (0). This gives the house an edge of 2.70%, which is one of the lowest edges you’ll find at the casino.

The roulette table layout can seem a bit confusing at first, but you’ll get the hang of it after a few rounds.

If you can, practice playing roulette for free before you commit to real money.

Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is a popular card game at casinos, and it’s also one of the easiest to learn.

The objective of the game is to beat the dealer. You’ll win if your hand is closer to 21 than the dealer’s, without going over (busting).

The game uses a standard deck of cards, and the suits have no relevance in the game.

Each player is dealt two cards face up, and the dealer receives two cards, one face up and one face down (hole card).

Depending on your hand and the dealer’s up card, you’ll have the option to hit (draw another card), stand (end the round with your current cards), double down (double your bet and receive one more card), or split (when you have two cards of the same value, you can split them into two hands).

There are a few variants of blackjack, such as Vegas Strip and Atlantic City blackjack, but the rules are generally the same.

The most important thing to understand about blackjack is strategy.

A blackjack strategy charts tell you exactly what to do based on your hand and the dealer’s up card.

You can print these charts and refer to them at the table.

Poker Rules

Poker is a more complex casino game, but it is still easy to learn the rules.

There are many variations of poker, such as Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and Seven-Card Stud.

These days, Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker variation, so we’ll go over its rules.

In Texas Hold’em, each player receives two hole cards and combines them with five community cards on the table to form the best possible five-card hand.

The first player to the left of the dealer button places a small blind bet, and the player to their left places a big blind bet, usually twice the amount of the small blind.

These forced bets ensure that there is some money in the pot to play for.

Each player can then call, raise, or fold.

The dealer button determines the order of betting. After the first round of betting, the dealer places three community cards on the table (the flop).

Another round of betting occurs, and then the dealer places a fourth community card on the table (the turn).

There is another round of betting, and then the dealer places a fifth and final community card on the table (the river).

At this point, there is a final round of betting.

Whoever is left in the hand after the final betting round shows their hole cards, and the player with the best five-card hand wins the pot.

Baccarat Rules

Baccarat is one of the easiest games to learn at the casino. It’s a simple game of chance, and the rules are incredibly straightforward.

In baccarat, each player takes turns acting as the banker. The dealer can also act as a banker.

The banker deals two hands, one to themselves and one to another player or a dealer.

The cards are dealt face down, and the objective is to get a point total of 9 or as close to 9 as possible.

Card values are as follows:

Cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value
An Ace is worth 1
10s and face cards are worth 0

You can draw a third card based on the following rules:

If your point total is 0-5, draw another card
If your point total is 6 or 7, stand
If your point total is 8, you have a natural, and you stand

If the banker’s hand totals 0-2, they draw

If the banker’s hand totals 3-6, the banker stands

If the banker’s hand totals 7, the banker stands if the player’s third card was 6 or 7

If the banker’s hand totals 8, they have a natural, and they stand

Whoever has the highest hand wins.

If both hands equal the same point value, it is a tie, and neither hand wins or loses.

Selecting the Right Casino

Playing at a safe and secure online casino is essential to ensure you’ll be paid your winnings.

When you’re looking for an online casino, there are a few things you should look for to make sure that it’s a trusted brand.

First, look for the licensing information at the bottom of the casino website. A legitimate casino will be licensed by a recognised gambling authority, such as the UK Gambling Commission or the Malta Gaming Authority.

Also, make sure the casino uses SSL encryption to protect your personal and financial information.

You can tell if a casino has SSL encryption by looking for the padlock symbol in the address bar before the website address.

Finally, a reputable casino will have a wide variety of games from reputable providers, plenty of payment methods, and easily accessible customer support.

Budgeting for Casino Games

It’s important to set a budget for yourself when you play at the casino, whether it be online or land-based.

Before you start playing, decide how much you can afford to spend.

If you’re playing at a land-based casino, you’ll need to convert your cash into chips. Decide beforehand how much of your money you want to exchange for chips.

If you’re playing at an online casino, you’ll need to deposit money into your casino account. Again, it’s wise to decide how much you want to deposit beforehand so that you don’t find yourself overspending.
